2016 Theme
In 2016, as a group of Christians we have decided to focus on "Following Jesus." One can call themselves a "Christian," but if we are unwilling to deny ourselves and follow Jesus in the exact way He has asked then we are not His disciples at all (John 14:15). Our focal Scripture this year is Matthew 16:24 where Jesus says, "24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. 25 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds."
To help one grow in spiritual maturity it is important to better understand Jesus' statement regarding cross-bearing. This statement of Christ is widely misused. It is not becoming poor, having illness, enduring bad weather, or any other light earthly affliction that is unavoidable. It is the acceptance and willingness to deny our own fleshly desires/temptations out of a pure desire to fulfill the commands and purpose of our Father in heaven.
Here at Northwest church we are simply a group of people who love God and depend upon His grace and mercy. We understand that to be the disciples we desire to be we must all continue to "Follow Jesus." We invite you to join us as we focus on this theme through our sermons and class studies so that we can all be better servants of the one true living God (Acts 17:22-24).
